The Symphony Skirt Hack
My Symphony Skirt hack is really very easy, but for those who want to know the exact details of my process, here is what I did.
Essentially, you simply leave part of every seam unsewn. I measured 18” up from the hem, but you could leave as much or as little unsewn as you like if you want a bigger or lesser ‘reveal’.
I marked the 18” point on every panel. Then I sewed every panel from the waist down, stopping at those points.
Finishing
Depending on the fabric you are using, you could leave the raw edges of the panels as is; hem the skirt and you are done.
I don’t like having raw edges, though, so I clipped the seam allowance at all the 18” marks and then folded back the seam allowance on each raw edge. I sewed these folds with a straight stitch – there is no stretch required on these slits, so a simple straight stitch is fine. (I would have preferred to have coverstitched for a more polished look, but my sewing machine would have been too slow, and I didn’t have the right shade of thread for my coverstitch machine.).
Sew like this around the tops of the slits.
Be warned- there is a LOT of distance to sew, finishing the raw edges of slits for 8 panels.
And that is it! A beautiful flared maxi skirts which shows off your legs and shoes!
